Course Overview
Rearfoot Complications is a lecture that reviews and discusses complications seen with rearfoot trauma and surgery. Topics include arthritis, neuritis, inaccurate reduction and compartment pressure syndrome associated with calcaneal fractures. In addition I will discuss complications seen with subtalar dislocations and fractures of the talus.

Identify common complications associated with rearfoot trauma and surgery, including post-traumatic arthritis, neuritis, malreduction, and compartment syndrome related to calcaneal fractures

Differentiate the mechanisms of medial and lateral subtalar dislocations and describe appropriate techniques for closed and open reduction as well as strategies for managing associated complications

Apply the Hawkins classification system to talar neck fractures and evaluate appropriate treatment approaches and potential complications, including avascular necrosis and post-traumatic arthritis

About the Speaker
Lawrence Fallat, DPM
Dr. Fallat is a graduate of Oakland Community College, Eastern Michigan University, and The Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Fallat completed his surgical residency in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery at Highlands Center Hospital in Denver, Colorado and a trauma fellowship at St. Elisabethen Hospital in Ravensburg, Germany. He is Program Director, Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgery at Corewell Wayne Hospital in Wayne, Michigan. Dr. Fallat is board certified by the American board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has published over 100 papers in peer reviewed journals.
