This presentation will cover a general overview of the conservative and surgical treatments available for the treatment of Achilles ruptures. The presentation will dive into the latest research and protocols, and we'll go over rehabilitation recommendations.The most current innovative techniques for minimally invasive approaches will be discussed. Arguments will be made for surgery and for conservative treatment leaving you with the question, What would you want done?

Compare and contrast current nonoperative treatment strategies and rehabilitation protocols for the management of acute Achilles tendon ruptures

Identify patient-specific and injury-specific factors that influence the selection of operative versus nonoperative treatment for Achilles tendon ruptures

Evaluate contemporary surgical techniques, including minimally invasive approaches, and apply evidence-based principles to optimize clinical outcomes and minimize complications following Achilles tendon repair

About the Speaker

Narendra Patel, DPM

Narendra R. Patel, DPM is a podiatric foot and ankle surgeon based in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. He is a partner at Barrington Orthopedic Specialists. He is known for his expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including sports injuries, fractures, peripheral nerve injuries, ankle replacement, and Charcot and Trauma expert. He is a past Trauma Section Editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Patel earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and completed his surgical residency under the mentorship of Dr. Guido LaPorta. He has been practicing since 1997. Dr. Patel is Faculty Attending Surgeon for the Ascension St. Joseph’s Surgical Residency Program and Fellowship Trainer for the Complex Deformity Correction & Microsurgical Limb Reconstruction at Ascension St. Joseph. He also serves as Faculty for Surgery Capstone at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science's Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine.
