  • Learning Objectives: At the end of the educational program, the learner will be able to:

  • Learn the risks and benefits of foot coalition surgery
  • Learn key features that may warrant realignment surgery as compared to resection alone for coalitions
  • Take a good history and perform a symptom-specific physical exam on an adolescent patient
  • Order appropriate x-rays and diagnostic tests on a child with a suspected accessory navicular
  • Know how to grade and treat clubfoot
  • Understand the variabilities in current treatments
  • List the x ray views needed for accurate intraoperative evans osteotomy alignment
  • List the three facets of the subtalar joint and which are involved with the Evans

    Mitzi Williams, DPM

    About the Speaker:

    Mitzi Williams, DPM

    Dr. Williams is a pediatric foot and lower extremity surgeon who specializes in congenital deformities. She currently practices at the Dobbs Clubfoot Center at the Paley Spine and Orthopedic Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dr. Williams graduated from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Finch University/The Chicago Medical School and completed her residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital. She served 15 years as an attending surgeon for the San Francisco Bay Area Foot and Ankle Residency training surgical residents. Dr. Williams is one of the few pediatric foot and ankle specialists in the United States and treats children from all over the world. She is an international speaker and has authored over 15 surgical textbook chapters and numerous original research publications.

    Richard Goad, DPM

    About the Speaker:

    Richard Goad, DPM

    Dr. Goad was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. He has a BA from Austin College in Sherman, TX. He received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, IL. He served his internship at The Cambridge City Hospital, Cambridge, MA. His Residency in Podiatric Surgery was at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He was in private practice in San Antonio for 23 years. Since 2011, he has been a Clinical Assistant Professor, Departments of Surgery and Pediatrics at McLane Children’s Medical Center, Baylor Scott and White Health Care in Temple Texas, and Baylor College of Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Goad received a Master’s Degree in Bioethics from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. He chairs the Pediatric Ethics Committee at McLane Children’s Hospital.

    Cory Moczygemba, DPM

    About the Speaker:

    Cory Moczygemba, DPM

    Dr. Cory Moczygemba is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon practicing in New Braunfels, Texas. He began his studies at the University of Texas and earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Barry University. Dr. Moczygemba went on to complete a three-year surgical residency at Baylor Scott & White, where he received training in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, with an additional emphasis on pediatric podiatry through a well-established subspecialty program. He has been serving the New Braunfels community for nearly three years, providing comprehensive and compassionate care to patients of all ages. Cory Moczygemba currently practices with TSAOG Orthopaedics and Spine.

    Brad Lamm, DPM

    About the Speaker:

    Brad Lamm, DPM

    Dr. Javier La Fontaine is the inaugural dean of the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine, having previously served as the associate dean of Academic Affairs. He has a rich background in podiatric medicine, including roles at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Texas A&M University. La Fontaine earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and has advanced degrees in Clinical Investigation and Education. He completed his internship and residency at UTHSCSA and is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine.
